Dermal fillers are injectable substances that are used to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, and enhance facial contours. They are primarily used for cosmetic purposes to rejuvenate the appearance of the face.

Dermal fillers are typically made of substances such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in a gel-like substance. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used and are known for their ability to attract and retain moisture, providing a plumping effect.

Some common areas treated with dermal fillers include the nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth downward), lips, cheeks, and under-eye hollows.

The effects of dermal fillers are immediate, and the results typically last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the type of filler used and the individual's metabolism. Over time, the body gradually absorbs the filler, and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the desired results.
